Kirsten Rüther
Kirsten Rüther holds the professorship of African History and Societies at the University of Vienna’s African Studies Department. After a longstanding interest in issues of christianisation and colonialism and, apart from an ongoing interest in biographical and family historical writing, she has identified an additional research interest in the study of African cities, more particularly housing. Her empirical research area is Southern Africa.
Within the 'Housing' research project she focuses on Livingstone, Zambia, and, as Principal Investigator, is responsible for the overall coherence between the three sub-projects. She supervises several doctoral theses (on other topics than housing) and is keen to link teaching in BA and MA curricula to this project’s research focus.
