Our team
Our project team, composing four core team members, is headed by Kirsten Rüther, Professor of History and Societies in Africa at the University of Vienna. Her post-doc team, Martina Barker-Ciganikova and Daniela Waldburger, will use this project as a basis for their Habilitations, while Carl Bodenstein is working on his PhD.
We are based at the Department of African Studies, University of Vienna. Our three-year research project funded by FWF, Austrian Science Fund, started on 1 March 2017.
We closely cooperate with a wide range of internationally established researchers. As area study specialists, we aim at forging interdisciplinary connections between the fields of history, social sciences and applied linguistics. Findings from our research aim to reach beyond our immediate field of expertise and may be of special interest to disciplines such as urban and town planning, development studies, architecture, environmental studies, anthropology, gender studies or health studies.
